Final Day of the FX Open Series Italy with Victory for Garda Demurtas-Santi in Difficult Conditions

Tremosine sul Garda, 20 October 2024 – The final day of the FX Open Series Italy concluded with intense and exciting racing under challenging conditions. The day began with a fierce 30-knot north wind, prompting the race committee to postpone the start. However, by 9:30 AM, the wind had eased enough to allow the competitors to hit the water. Four races were completed in big waves and a steady north wind, which gradually softened as the day progressed, making the conditions more manageable.

Despite the tough start, the competitors showed incredible skill and determination in navigating the conditions, and the evolution of the leaderboard reflected the resilience and tactical prowess of the sailors.

Top 3 Winners

1st Place – ITA 201: Alex Demurtas and Giovanni Santi (Fraglia Vela Riva / Società Canottieri Garda Salo)

Alex Demurtas and Giovanni Santi secured the overall victory with a total of 27 points, showing remarkable consistency across the three days of racing. After an early setback with an 11th place in the first race, the duo quickly found their rhythm, winning three races and maintaining a top-five finish in most. Their strategic approach and skill in handling the demanding conditions earned them the top spot on the podium.

2nd Place – CZE 40: Lukas Kraus and Ondrej Bastar (YC Cere / YC Lokomotiva Plzen)

The Czech team of Lukas Kraus and Ondrej Bastar claimed second place with a total of 43 points. They started strong with a win in the third race of the first day and remained competitive throughout the series. Despite a few challenging races, including a ninth-place finish on day two, their consistent presence in the top three enabled them to secure the silver medal.

3rd Place – SUI 154: Theo Elbel and Itay Geller (Segler-Vereinigung Thalwil / Zürcher Yacht Club)

Theo Elbel and Itay Geller from Switzerland completed the podium, finishing third with 65 points. Their performance included strong top-three finishes, but a disqualification (UFD) in race 8 set them back. Nonetheless, their ability to bounce back, particularly with solid performances in the final races, ensured their place in the top three.

The FX Open Series Italy has proven to be a true test of endurance, skill, and perseverance for all teams. Congratulations to all the sailors who competed in these challenging conditions, and to the top three teams for their outstanding performances!
