Trofeo Claudio: A Triumph of Skill and Sportsmanship

Campione del Garda, Italy – The third edition of the Optimist Team Race event, Trofeo Claudio, concluded on September 29th with a thrilling finale. Named in honor of the esteemed Optimist coach Claudio Brighenti, the event showcased the exceptional talent and dedication of young sailors from around the world.

Over three days of intense competition, 120 matches were completed under the strong winds of Lake Garda. The semifinals and finals took place on September 29th, with 16 teams vying for the top spot.

The coveted first place was secured by the Italy Worlds Team, a squad comprised of the talented athletes Mattia Di Martino, Andrea Demurtas, Tommaso Geiger, Leandro Scialpi, and Andrea Tramontano. This team will proudly represent Italy at the upcoming World Championship.

Claiming the second position was the Ostia team, representing Lega Navale di Ostia. The team consisted of Pietro Lucchesi, Tommaso Cucinotta, Lorenzo Miscioscia, Filippo Nardocci, and Matteo Faraoni.

In third place was the Italy Europeans Team, set to compete in the European Championship. The team members included Bianca Marchesini, Jesper Karlsen, Cristian Castellan, and Anna Merlo.

The Trofeo Claudio was expertly organized by Univela Sailing Club, with a race committee composed of local experts under the guidance of Ezio Pozzengo and Class Representative Marcello Meringolo. The team of umpires was led by the Italian Michele Ricci.

The event was a resounding success, showcasing the spirit of sportsmanship, camaraderie, and exceptional sailing skills. The Trofeo Claudio continues to be a highlight on the Optimist racing calendar, providing young sailors with an invaluable opportunity to compete at the highest level.
