The route begins at Univela in Campione, on Via Riccardo Cozzaglio, where you can reserve a table in the garden by the lake at the "Terraferma" restaurant or stay in a lake-view room. If you are a guest at Univela, you can park your car there. Otherwise, you can park in the public parking lot near Villa Archetti for €9 per day or €1 per hour (camper vans have double rates: €18 per day, €2 per hour).
Tip: Wear trekking shoes and bring a water supply, as some sections have steep climbs and mixed terrain.
Phase 1: Along the historic Gardesana road
From this point, the path takes you onto the old Gardesana road. After passing a building, climb a few steps that lead you onto the historic route.
- The path includes a paved section, though somewhat worn, with two tunnels that provide a pleasant coolness on hot summer days.
- Walking just a few meters (or slightly above) the lake allows you to admire its changing colors depending on the season.
Phase 2: Transition from asphalt to dirt path and breathtaking views
The trail gradually shifts from asphalt to a dirt path:
- After passing through a short tunnel, the trail opens up again, offering truly indescribable panoramic views.
- Along this stretch, you can feel the history of the route, once traveled by vehicles enjoying the same spectacular panorama, now rediscovered on foot by hikers.
Phase 3: Signposts and passageways along the main trail
Before the tunnel leading to the Forra di Tremosine, notice a passage on the right marked by a trail sign carved into the wall (always indicated with the number 150).
- On the left side, the vertical rock walls provide an ideal setting for sport climbing, as indicated by a local via ferrata map.
- Although this section is part of the main road, there are areas where the path narrows and requires caution.
Phase 4: Entering trail 141
At a well-marked point, trail 141 – designated for experienced hikers – begins its ascent.
- The trail, in some sections steep, is equipped with ropes for added safety.
- It winds through a forest of holm oaks, offering numerous panoramic viewpoints of Lake Garda – each hairpin turn reveals a different and stunning view.
Phase 7: Unique elements along the route
During the ascent, at a right-hand turn, you can spot a small cave ("cuel") on the left, decorated with a Madonna carved into the rock, adding a touch of spirituality and local tradition.
- As you exit the forest, the view opens up even further, revealing a spectacular perspective of the lake.
Phase 5: Arrival in Pieve di Tremosine
The final stretch consists of zigzagging steps, some paved with porphyry, leading directly to Pieve di Tremosine.
- Once you arrive, turn right to reach a panoramic terrace overhanging the lake, perfect for a coffee break and fully enjoying the view.
Final Notes:
- Always check the weather conditions and your equipment before hiking.
- Although the route is well-marked, some sections require caution, especially on dirt paths and steep ascents.
- The itinerary is ideal for those who wish to combine physical activity, scenic beauty, and a journey through the local history of Lake Garda.
